In the two most hotly contested contests in the Republican primary incumbents Jack Evans and Charles Cox defeated their opponents in convincing fashion. Evans garnered 50.3% of the vote compared to 36.6% for State Rep. Diana Fessler and 13.1% for former county commissioner Bob Clawson. Jack Evans now faces a Democrat in the November election.
In the Sheriffs race Chuck Cox soundly defeated his former Chief Deputy 69.5% to 30.5%. Sheriff Cox is un-opposed in November.
In other contested races, 79th State Representative candidate Richard Adams handly defeated his opponent with over 70% of the vote district-wide. Dick now faces a Democrat in the November election.
County Recorder John Alexander won his primary race by the larger margin of 65.9% to 34.1%. John also has Democratic opposition in November.
In the race to become the next Coroner, Dr. Bruce Nordquist won the seat by defeating Dr. Steve Huffman and 3 other candidates with 34.2% compared to 26.1% for Dr. Huffman. Dr. Nordquist will take office in January since no Democrat filed for the position.
The rest of the Republican office holders won re-election by virtue of being un-opposed. Ron Widener, County Commissioner, Gary Nasal, Prosecutor, Jan Mottinger, Clerk of Courts, Lydia Callison, Treasurer, Doug Christian, Engineer, Robert Lindeman, Common Pleas Judge and newly Probate/Juvinile Judge elect Greg Dixon.
