Miami County Endorsement Convention
The 2010 Miami County Republican Endorsement Convention will be held on Sunday March 21, 2010 at Milton-Union High School. The convention is a one of a kind event in the State of Ohio. 535 delegates from precincts in Miami County will listen to speeches from local, district and statewide candidates who want their endorsement.
The day starts with a lunch catered by West Milton's own Brick House from Noon to 1:45 and the convention begins promptly at 2pm. The contested races that will be endorsed at the convention include; US Congress, Ohio Auditor, Secretary of State, 5th District State Senate and 2nd District Court of Appeals.
The Convention has a long history of exceitment and policial theatre resulting in several upset endorements over the years. O'Brien, Gearhardt and Quillen file petitions
John W. “Bud” O’Brien, Commissioner; Matt Gearhardt, Auditor
and Patricia Quillen, Treasurer filed petitions to retain the offices they
currently hold.
O’Brien and Quillen are opposed in the general election,
O’Brien by a Libertarian and Quillen by a Democrat.Commissioner O’Brien has more then 14 years experience with Miami
County, first as Recorder and now as Commissioner.Pat Quillen is in her first year as Miami County Treasurer but
served over 10 years as Concord Township Fiscal Officer and worked previously in financial
services with a law firm and Physician's office.O’Brien lives in Monroe Township with his
wife and has a senior in Tipp City Schools and two college students.Pat Quillen lives in Concord Township with her
husband.
County Auditor Matt Gearhardt is opposed in the Primary on
May 4th by Newton Townships Tony Fessler.Gearhardt has been with the Auditors office for 5 years and
received certifications from the Ohio Auditor’s Association.Gearhardt has been a key player in the county
budget cuts and worked with the other elected officials to balance the budget during the economic downturn.He lives in Piqua with his wife and son.
Matt Gearhardt named Auditor
The Republican Central Committee named Matt Gearhardt, Piqua, the new Miami
County Auditor.
Gearhardt comes with an extensive resume in the Auditors office and in his
educational training. After Matt's education at Miami East schools, where
he graduated with honors, he continued his impressive academic career at the
University of Kentucky. Matt graduated with a Bachelors degree and a
Masters degree both with honors distinction. After UK he came home to
Miami County to work with Buckeye Insurance in Piqua and then took a position
with Chris Peeples as a deputy auditor. Since Matt's start with the
county he has continued his education through the Ohio Auditors Association and
worked with all of the elected officials in Miami County. His work earned him a
promotion from Chris Peeples to Chief Deputy Auditor, or second in charge!
Matt Gearhardt comes from a long line of family members who have served
their community and the Republican Party in one-way or another. His cousin
Larry Gearhardt is an active advocate for the Ohio Farm Bureau in Columbus and
a current Newberry Township Central Committee Member. His uncle Paul
Gearhardt was elected to multiple terms as an Elizabeth Township Trustee and is
a former Executive Committee member in the party.
Matt currently resides in Piqua with his wife and son. Besides his
work as Auditor he farms with his Uncle Paul and is an active 4-H father,
supporting his son at the State Fair and the Miami County Fair, and as a
supportive parent in his school and athletic endeavors.
